Have you recently received your new Yellow Pages? Not sure what to do with the old one?
Today Alice Massey from Newcastle and Gateshead Friends of the Earth sent me this timely email.
Dear All,
In the UK there is Yellow Pages Directory Recycling Scheme (DRS) which is a partnership with local authorities. The DRS Helpline – 0800 671 444 – is published at the front of every new Yellow Pages directory and provides advice to local residents on where and how to recycle their old directories.
If you live in Newcastle, as I do then, the Yellow Pages directories can be recycled in your black box this month -that is up to the 29th of August. Its worth calling the helpline or use the online postcode search facility at: http://www.yellgroup.com/DR/english/74LGSF
If you ever wondered what they turn into, then here is the answer:
Millions of old Yellow Pages are recycled every year, most often into card and corrugated board, loft insulation, packaging materials, jiffy bags, egg boxes, animal bedding and also newsprint.
