Few of Tyne Bridge Morris have got next year’s diary or calendar yet - but I’m already receiving enquiries about bookings for next summer.
We’ve already had to turn down one invitation to a weekend of dance on the grounds of distance (sorry Oyster Morris of Canterbury)…
Other dates being considered so far are:-
March 29 - Morpeth Gathering
April 5 - Margaret’s Diamond Birthday Do
May 1 – Dancing at Dawn on Town Moor
This will be the 30th traditional dance at dawn on the Moor. The first one was organised for the first May Day Bank Holiday in 1978 and has happened every year since. If all goes as planned/hoped this year Tyne Bridge will have a team of dancers in their teens, twenties, thirties, forties, fifties and sixties.
May 17 Sedgefield Medieval Fair.
No formal invitation so far but they did say “See you next year” when we left, and I’d hate to let them down. You never know who might be there.
July 5 - Wallsend Festival
July 12 - Hartlepool Headland Heritage Festival.
We did this for the first time last year and really enjoyed it – with an appreciative audience and a good pub.
July 26 - Durham Folk Party
August 6 etc – Broadstairs Folk Week
Then there’s the possibility of local teams getting together around St George’s Day, and us getting together with Hexham Morris outside the Cumberland Arms, Byker, one Thursday evening in July. These have both happened for the past couple of years and seem to be getting to be a habit.
2008 will also be Tyne Bridge Morris’ 30th Anniversary, so we have our own day of dance and celebrations to fit in before the end of the year as well.
And you can bet that, despite having had between four and nine months notice, there will be dancers who won't be able to say whether they can do a booking until the week before. Not necessarily the ones with the busiest lives or most awkward shift patterns. There will also be ones who ask me the dates every other week despite having been given them in writing.
It would help if the buggers would read their emails once in a blue moon ...
Oh the joys of being a bagman.
