If you’re one of those people who can’t stand the thought of traipsing around the shops to find that perfect outfit or (in my Mum’s case) you’re looking for a few pieces to brighten up your wardrobe with little effort, look no further than the personal shopping service at Debenhams.
A couple of years ago my Dad came up with a gem of an idea for a present for Mum at Christmas – pennies to spend on pretty things and someone to help her do it. As with most Mums, every time mine went shopping to get something for herself, she’d inevitably come back with everything but. This was the perfect present to ensure that every penny spent was on her.
This present and the resulting shopping spree was such a success, that this Christmas Dad decided to splash out on the love of his life once more (this time with a few extra pennies for good measure) and today I accompanied Mum to Debenhams in the Metro Centre for her personal shopping appointment.
We arrived at 10am and were met by Karen, who would be looking after Mum throughout her appointment. She took us to a comfy little room tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the shop floor and asked a few questions about what Mum was looking for. She then sorted us out with a drink left us to relax as she disappeared to scour the shop floor for the perfect outfits on Mum’s behalf.
Karen arrived back with a rail full of clothes within 20 minutes and talked through her choices with Mum before she started to try things on. After several outfit changes, we narrowed the rail down to a dress, a skirt, a top and a cardigan and Karen took these to the till as Mum was getting sorted In less than an hour and a half, Mum’s wardrobe had been transformed and she emerged happy and relaxed after a much deserved, stress-free spree.
Of course, I couldn’t leave the Metro Centre empty handed and because I didn’t quite have Mum’s budget, a trip to my beloved Primark was in order. The first thing I picked up was a red and white striped vest top for £1.50. It fits in perfectly with the nautical trend that has once again appeared on the Spring/Summer catwalks and will look great with my high-waist, wide-leg navy blue trousers. Next in the basket was a light grey t-shirt with subtle ruffle detail (another key trend) for £4. And finally, my favourite purchase was a gorgeous, sheer, floral top with bow detail at the neck, which came in at £6. For the grand total of £13.50 I emerged with three new pieces of on-trend fashion to add to my ever-expanding wardrobe. And you wonder why I love Primark so much?!
