Inspiration

Posted by Rebecca Young on May 4, 2008 5:07 PM |

First of all, let me apologise for my lack of blogging of late. Inspiration has been hard to come by these past few weeks but I am hoping that with the start of a new month and the approach of my birthday, it will return.

On the theme of inspiration, I wanted to talk about where I generally get mine from when it comes to my fashion choices. As an avid reader of glossy magazines such as Elle and Vogue I find myself poring over their pages each month, waiting for them to provide me with an idea for my next fashion fix.

However, as with most of you, I don’t have the budget to buy most of the things that are featured within these fashion bibles, so I improvise. The high street has become quicker and sharper when interpreting the styles off the catwalks, so mere mortals like us can snap up similar pieces to those that have been coveted by the rich and famous, at prices we can afford.

This leads nicely into another of my inspirations – the world of the “celebrity.” Actresses, models, TV personalities – all have their fashion moments and in this day and age they are gaining more of an influence over what a lot of us wear. In some cases, they are even designing their own range of clothes (the Kate Moss range for Topshop being the shining example here.) I personally enjoy scrutinising their outfit choices in magazines or on television and seeing what they (and their stylists) come up with.

I have to admit, though, that I think my main inspiration comes from ordinary people I pass in the street. I could quite happily sit in the window of a busy city-centre cafe and watch people passing by, seeing what they’re wearing and getting ideas for my next shopping trip. Everyone has their own sense of style, and I think it’s a great way of seeing how fashion transfers from the models on the catwalks to everyday people like you and me.
