Postcards from the edge?

Posted by Brenda Boyd on August 14, 2008 12:31 PM |

In recent years Tyne Bridge have become regulars at Broadstairs Folk Week. I can't go due to family and Fester's work commitments. So they send me postcards and the occasional text (the far east of Kent having very poor mobile coverage). The first year they sent one a day. This morning I received an envelope containing five numbered cards - one for each of the days the team performed. Below are edited highlights (as usual names have been changed to protect the guilty). Where I recognise the hand I will identify the writer.

SATURDAY
I'm hung-over (Squire)
English weather - can it rain !!! 1 v. wet dragon (Mrs Drummerman)
We paraded in the rain - only us and Offcumduns danced.
Weather is here wish you were Bazoukiboy xxx

SUNDAY
Broken: 1 brand new tent, one of the tent poles exploded. (Squire)
Banjoman spent the day complaining his pants were on back to front. AND THEN discovered they were not when he went to bed (Mrs Banjoman?)
When Scamp (the dog) won't eat the fish you know you're in trouble and I was (Mrs Drummerman).
There is a worry what will land in the blog. Team followed Bazoukiboy's advice and nearly got blown from the jetty to France.
Wind was worse than you moving me in Rose & Crown and the pet Kingsman's only just started on the IPA. Got hangover now! (Squire)

MONDAY
War! Tyne Bridge Dragon vs. Broadstairs Hobby Horses.
Squireson waged war and the hobby horses fought back - then we got told off.
Banjoman mistook the campsite minibus for a taxi ...
Pet Kingsman cried and was promptly broken and is failing to leave the tent due to beeritis!

TUESDAY
STOP PRESS:STORM HELD UP!
Today, 4.20pm English Channel becalmed by TyneBridge Morris, the ongoing storms also were seen to stop. At Jetty, Broadstairs.
STOP PRESS:
TyneBridge musicians, some allegedly 'Gay Pirates', rained on as the "held up" storm actually arrives, today 4.23 Broadstairs.

WEDNESDAY
Squeezeboxboy's challenge for the day - get Banjoman out of the pub.
TyneBridge invents a new figure on the trot! Whilst parading Churchtown along the pier the call came "change direction" - cast was duly half done to carry this out but dancers discovered they were on the wrong side! The call "swap sides" worked a treat (Squire)
Mrs Mobilephone has spent every moment looking for free plug sockets in every pub in Broadstairs to charge her 'phone. Districtnurse and I sat till 2.30am!! listening or sleeping through a singaround until said 'phone had charged up!! Sad I know. Miss you lots Mrs Mobilephone xxx
Best seller at Broadstairs - yellow plastic bag capes - £1 at time
Broke camp in record time to avoid rain (Squire)

ADDENDUM
Squire, Goddaughter and Squireson have arrived home safely and been over to collect his hamster who's been here on her holidays.
I don't know about the rest of the team.
