Inspiration

Posted by Rebecca Young on May 4, 2008 5:07 PM

First of all, let me apologise for my lack of blogging of late. Inspiration has been hard to come by these past few weeks but I am hoping that with the start of a new month and the approach of my birthday, it will return.

On the theme of inspiration, I wanted to talk about where I generally get mine from when it comes to my fashion choices. As an avid reader of glossy magazines such as Elle and Vogue I find myself poring over their pages each month, waiting for them to provide me with an idea for my next fashion fix.

London, Baby!

Posted by Rebecca Young on March 30, 2008 8:36 PM

It’s been seven years since I was last in London, and after getting a press trip through work to stay in a fancy hotel just round the corner from Harrods, I knew I’d be in for a good time!

I was more than a little excited about the prospect of a weekend in the “big smoke” (just ask anyone in the office – I was practically bouncing off the walls!) and it more than lived up to my expectations, especially when it came to the shops.

Seeing as we were so close, it would have been rude not to go to Harrods first. I knew I was safe in there as pretty much everything was out of my price range! I wandered around, taking in the exquisite surroundings and all the clothes, shoes, bags and accessories and wishing I had more than £20 in my purse. A girl can dream...

Shopping Dilemma

Posted by Rebecca Young on March 17, 2008 8:57 PM

I always find this time of year really awkward when it comes to deciding what to wear and what to buy. Although in the North East the weather is generally cold, wet and windy, it gets to a point when the last thing you want to do is pull on another woolly jumper or thick pair of tights. But at the same time, you’d look a bit ridiculous walking the streets wearing a summer dress and flip flops!

I hit the shops this weekend in the hope of finding some new clothes to help my transition from winter woolies to spring brights, but came away pretty much empty handed (bar a couple of pairs of shoes, more of which later.)

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Posted by Rebecca Young on March 1, 2008 9:10 PM

Chanel kicked off one of the hottest trends of the Spring/Summer season in their ready-to-wear show back in October last year. The fact that Kate Moss wore one of the outfits featured in this show for her 34th birthday, further established the star print as one of the “must-have” pieces to bring your wardrobe bang up to date.

Of course, most of us don’t have the £5, 490 Kate splashed out on her Chanel birthday outfit but, as always, the high street has come up trumps with their own versions of the trend. One of my personal favourites (and a recent addition to my wardrobe) is a little black chiffon dress with white stars on from New Look. At £25, it’s definitely within the price range of us mere mortals! Dorothy Perkins also have a lovely cream blouse with bow detail and metallic star print at £28.

Shopping with a Personal Touch

Posted by Rebecca Young on February 21, 2008 9:48 PM

If you’re one of those people who can’t stand the thought of traipsing around the shops to find that perfect outfit or (in my Mum’s case) you’re looking for a few pieces to brighten up your wardrobe with little effort, look no further than the personal shopping service at Debenhams.

A couple of years ago my Dad came up with a gem of an idea for a present for Mum at Christmas – pennies to spend on pretty things and someone to help her do it. As with most Mums, every time mine went shopping to get something for herself, she’d inevitably come back with everything but. This was the perfect present to ensure that every penny spent was on her.

J’Adore Dior

Posted by Rebecca Young on February 16, 2008 3:30 PM

Vintage fashion has always been a bit of a mystery to me, so a couple of months back I went to a vintage fashion fair at the Station Hotel to see first-hand what it was all about. Fuelled with the thought of unearthing some hidden gems, I dragged my poor mother out of bed at some ungodly hour for a Sunday to see what we could find.

Stepping into the hotel we instinctively knew to follow our noses to find the clothes, as the foyer was filled with the musty smell of vintage fashion. The first room we went into was the smaller of the two, but was an eclectic mix of sparkling jewellery, bags, clothes and other pieces dating from the 1920s up until the 1980s. However, the first thing that caught my eye was to be one of the most exciting purchases I’d ever made.

Starting the New Year in Style

Posted by Rebecca Young on February 8, 2008 6:22 PM

It must have been a world record. I had been carrying around £100 worth of Eldon Square vouchers for 11 whole days before spending any of them. I don’t know how I managed it...

A shopping spree was long overdue and much needed, so the first Saturday I had free I headed into Newcastle to spend, spend, spend!

I was fully expecting to come back with nothing considering that’s what usually happens when I actually have money. It’s always the way – I’m penniless and I find loads of things I want. I have money and I see nothing!

Thankfully the shopping gods were working in my favour that day...

Fashion on a Budget

Posted by Rebecca Young on February 4, 2008 2:06 PM

For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by fashion. What the clothes are made of, how they’re designed, the inspiration, the colours, the accessories, the trends, how people wear things... The list goes on.

As soon as I was able to, I’d be buying as many magazines as I could afford, pouring over the pages and taking in how the outfits were put together from the hairstyle and make-up to the shoes and everything else in between.

I had found my passion in life and it just keeps on growing stronger the older I get.
